COPY 'Smith & Wesson' Revolver in .44 S&W Calibre (.44 Russ) COPY

This is a Spanish made copy of the S&W in flagrant breach of patent - it even has a S&W logo!
The grips show the year 1914 and unlike the S&W there is a safety lever above the left grip.
Good clean chambers and bore, the latter with quite shallow rifling.
The ejection system and safety work as they should and these Spanish copies actually had a reputation for being well made.
The cylinder unscrews easily for cleaning.
The trigger return spring is quite weak and requires a little help, and the cylinder at lock up has perhaps quarter of an inch play suggesting a worn hand and/or cylinder stop.
A nice example with much of its original finish remaining.

Belgian .320 Calibre Double Action Revolver with Purse

An unusual gift for the woman who has everything? This is a lovely little gun in very nice condition - and complete with the original purse in very nice soft suede.

Double action only, and no safety catch (well a lady shouldn't have too much to think about in times of danger) it has nice clean chambers and bore, with worn but clear rifling (she must have practised).
In good working order, with tight lock up and very nice ebony grips.

The stamping "FM" under the left grip suggests it was made by Francotte & May.

Nagant Single Action Revolver in 9.4mm Dutch Calibre

This design is typical of many Nagants, but unusually in 9.4mm calibre.
This is an early gun, built for the original 9.4mm black powder round, and has had an interesting history, having been stamped with two sets of serial numbers.
The Nagant is a big heavy gun and this one was for issue to enlisted men (hence single action).
History has been kinder to one side than the other, probably due to poor storage, and I have included close-ups of the good left side and poorer right side. The gun has excellent grips, and its original lanyard ring.
The ejector rod is missing its retaining screw.

Dutch Revolver in 9mm Hollandais Calibre (9.4mm Dutch)

The family of (generally Belgian made) 9.4mm Dutch service revolvers is quite extensive with different makers introducing minor variations. This one is the only one of its type I have come across and is from circa 1873 stamped on the top strap with the maker's name Edouard de Beaumont of Roermond - so it is truly a Dutch made gun, with Dutch proofs.
Variations on this one (which was made for the commercial rather than military market) include an orthodox lever safety (rather than the pivoting chamber-locking type) and a nice 'rope' edge to the front of the cylinder.
As usual it has a shiny bore with good rifling suggesting that it was well cared for. The chambers are excellent, as are the walnut grips that have just a little bruising.
Mechanically very good with working safety.
It retains much original finish with some spots of discoloration and nice grips.

German Double Action Revolver in .320 Calibre

This is a nice, well made German revolver with shrouded hammer and much of its original finish remaining, though with handling marks and some 'dings'
It functions well and has a spring loaded button in front of the cylinder making disassembly very easy. Folding trigger.
Nice grips with still crisp checkering featuring an animal head.
German proof mark but no maker's name although it appears very like an Arminius.
Clear shiny bore with strong rifling and nice clean chambers.

Double Action (Cobold) Revolver in 9mm Dutch Calibre

Of a type issued to police, postmen and some service people, the top strap bears the Dutch motto 'Je maintiendrai' and the name of 'Joh Munts Amsterdam.'

The gun is Belgian made by Marechal but with Dutch proofs and features the unique (Cobold) pivoting safety lever which engages a chamber in the cylinder.
The loading gate pivots to the rear.

It has a 'square' butt rather than a 'bird's head' and a nice touch is the spring loaded ejector rod, which when pulled out of its housing springs into correct alignment with the chamber.
It has a shiny bore with strong rifling.

KNIL Double Action Revolver in 9.4mm Dutch Calibre

Made by Vickers for the Dutch in Birmingham in 1922 this is another example of one of my favourite calibres, the Dutch 9.4mm.
This model was made to fulfil an order placed by the Dutch for further supplies of their Model 1891 revolver, a solid frame, simple and easily handled gun intended originally for use by the Dutch East Indies army in Indonesia.
This one may well have spent some time in the hands of the Japanese who captured many at  the Dutch surrender in 1942.
The 9.4mm was quite a powerful round and high on the left recoil shield can be seen a replaced strengthened section inserted by the Dutch to cope with smokeless rounds.
This gun is excellent mechanically with unusually good grips, good clean chambers and an excellent bright shiny bore with good rifling.

Double Action .320 Calibre Belgian Revolver

A very nice and rather unusual revolver, reminiscent of a Chamelot Delvigne Pinfire, but in .320 Centrefire.
The body and barrel retain close to 100% nickel plating, but the ejector rod and cylinder have some flaking.
Bright shiny bore with strong rifling and excellent grips.
Most pinfires I have seen with this type of ejector rod end up with the rod somewhat bent, but not this one. Another unusual feature is the cylinder pin release system. It's effective but I've never seen another like it.
The mechanics are excellent in both single and double action, locking up tight.

Belgian Double Action Revolver in 9mm Hollandais (9.4mm Dutch) Calibre

I'm a great fan of these guns which almost invariably appear in excellent condition 130 years after manufacture.
This example doesn't have the best of grips and the body has a little scratching but otherwise it's in very good condition. The mechanics in single and double action are excellent, with a good tight lockup.
60+% original finish remains, and the bore is excellent.
The gun has the usual (or unusual) somewhat clumsy looking safety, but it was tried and tested and not found wanting.
I understand that this particular gun serial number 112 was used by the Swiss police.

Swiss Schmidt-Rubin Model 1889 Rifle In 7.5mm x 53.5 Calibre
A slightly unusual example of this famous rifle, this one has had the barrel shortened to 22.5" and the stock shortened in proportion. I think these alterations are an improvement, at least aesthetically, and it is still a heavy piece of equipment - especially with a full 12 round magazine.
The inert bullets illustrated are antique - but not authentic to the gun, although they fit for display purposes (the Swiss developed further models with slightly different ammunition, and the rounds pictured are for a later model).
The interesting aspect of this gun, at the cutting edge of firearm technology in its day, is the straight pull bolt action.
In excellent working order, and with a mirror-like bore with strong rifling, the rifle has a magazine release arrangement combined with a selector for single fire if your sergeant was economical with the ammunition. Part of the bolt knob has cracked off and the front sling swivel is missing.

I G Mod. 71/84 Rifle in 11.15 X 60R Mauser Calibre
in 1877 at the battle of Plevna an Ottoman Turkish force defeated a numerically superior *Russian force, and in so doing demonstrated the advantages of the firepower offered by a repeating rifle. The Turks were using the lever action Winchester 1866 model, with its tubular magazine.
The lesson was learned, and led to the design by Mauser of the 71/84 rifle. This example was made at Amberg and in addition to all the usual German markings on the metalwork (but none on the stock), it bears the date 1887 (twice). The original finish has gone, and there is some moderate pitting on the external metalwork but the action works as well as it ever did. The bore is clean and bright but with a band of slight roughness midway. It retains strong rifling.
As is to be expected of a piece of ordnance of this age, it carries a few knocks and scratches, but has good (stripey) woodwork and is an excellent example of a rifle which was at the forefront of firearm technology in its day.

BELGIAN .320 Calibre Revolver

This is a little beauty, with almost 100% intact nickel plating, good though slightly discoloured grips, perfect screws, perfect ejection system, nice clean chambers, and like DA255 above, resembling a S&W No 3 in miniature (though with safety catch).

The downside? The bore, although bright with strong rifling shows some roughness. Maybe .25" play in cylinder (worn locking tab) and tends to stick on one chamber in single and double action.
A lovely gun for display.
